Going Green with Tonal Vision

We don't advertise that we're green because we're not sure we go above and beyond what any responsible business should be doing.  However, since you seem to be interested, below are some of the measures we've taken to reduce our energy and resource consumption and preserve our planet:

  1. We are a home-based business.  This eliminates commuting miles, allows us to operate more efficiently and keeps our overhead down.
  2. Our electricity supplier is Clean Currents, the Mid-Atlantic's leading, independent green energy company which supplies us with renewable wind power through the electric grid.
  3. Our web site provider is site5, a green host.
  4. We use paper and other supplies with as much renewable content as possible. We recycle religiously.
  5. When we need new lighting, appliances, improvements in our facilities, etc., we seek out the most energy-saving options that meet our performance specifications.  Our newest video lighting is LED and fluorescent.  Our newest video cameras use flash memory cards instead of tape.  In 1998, we replaced several banks of windows with energy efficient versions.
  6. In 2008, we donated our second vehicle to our son and now practice car sharing, take public transportation, use a Zipcar or rent when our truck isn't enough.
  7. Each spring, we record and sell over 1,000 dance performance DVDs to families of those who performed in them.  In 2009, we substantially reduced the plastic packaging in these DVDs by switching from full sized to slim-line DVD cases.  (This was actually not a cost savings.  The new cases we found look better than standard cases, but are actually more expensive than the ones we were buying.)
