School Shows

Tonal Vision offers substantial discounts on videos of performances sponsored by educational institutions (schools, dance studios, theatre groups, etc.) where the finished DVDs are designed to be sold to parents, family and other performance attendees. The discount is 20% of our production costs most of the year, and 10% the first two weekends in June. To qualify for the discount, the educational institution must:

  • Guarantee that we will be the only ones videotaping the performance (except casual cell-phone shots by audience members in their seats)
  • Acknowledge Tonal Vision in the program and before the event
  • Provide a sales table for us if we are handling the sales

Example costs & pricing

  • Production costs (includes labor, equipment, editing, DVD mastering and labeling, & complimentary trailer)
    • 1 camera: $750 - 20% = $600
    • 2 cameras: $1500 - 20% = $1,200
    • 3 cameras: $2000 - 20% = $1,600
    • 3 cameras & sound mixer: $2,400 - 20% = $1,920
  • Additional costs
    • We handle sales, duplication & shipping: $6.50/DVD plus sales tax
      • $6.50/DVD = $2.25 for duplication & packaging; $1.81 USPS postage cost, which now includes delivery confirmation; $.44 for bubble envelopes & labels; and $2.00 for labor to take orders, track & ship.
      • Sales tax is 6% of DVD price before our standard $3 shipping charge. For example, $1.53 for $30 DVDs, $1.81 for $35 DVDs, and $2.09 for $40 DVDs.
    • You handle the sales, we ship the DVDs to you, and you ship or distribute them: $2.25/DVD
  • Sales: the selling price of the DVDs times expected sales must equal our production costs plus the additional costs/DVD above
    • If your school does not have a sales history with Tonal Vision or your history is inadequate to cover costs, we will require that you guarantee a minimum number of sales
  • Bonus opportunities:
    • If we are handling the sales and your school provides an employee or volunteer to help staff our sales table, we will take $1/DVD off the price for sales expenses above.
    • If your performance uses pre-recorded music and school provides CDs (or other digital version) of all music plus a copy of your program in PDF format, we will donate $25 to your school.
    • If your school does not take a share of sales and the actual sales (as of the date the DVDs are ready to be shipped) are higher than the cost/DVD plus sales tax, we will donate 25% of the extra income to your school.
