Born in Peru, South America, Carlos Cubas moved to Baltimore, Maryland at the age of 8. Carlos inherited his natural gift for singing from his father, Luis G. Cubas, who also taught him how to play acoustic guitar. Hearing his father sing and play as he was growing up greatly inspired Carlos’ passion for music.
At a young age, Carlos taught himself how to play keyboard, and learned how to play melodies by ear. He continued to keep music as a major hobby growing up and was influenced by a wide variety of music in English and Spanish such as Marc Anthony, Dave Matthews Band, Ray Charles, Live, The Wallflowers, Carlos Vives, Bacilos, and Juanes to name a few.
While Carlos’ passion for music stayed true, the primary focus in his life was earning a degree from Towson University, solidifying his career as a professional Engineer, and starting a Family with his Lovely wife Katia. Carlos and Katia were blessed with two amazing children, Carlos and Tatiana. Carlos once recorded a duet for his Family of Marc Anthony’s “No Me Ames” with his beautiful wife while his son was deep asleep in his arms. Year after year, Carlos’ desire to record and play music grew stronger; but until recently, finding the time proved difficult.
Last year, Carlos launched his YouTube channel with acoustic covers recorded in his home. His first cover “Tu Con El” drew the attention of Juano Velazquez from the original band “Los Iracundos”, a legendary South American Band.
Carlos was thrilled with the praise he received from Los Iracundos, and even more so when they asked him to cover another of their songs “Te lo Pido De Rodillas.” His musical interaction and praise from drummer and founder of Los Iracundos, Juano Velazquez, remains a constant musical inspiration for Carlos.
Also impressed by Carlos’ voice, Dean Crawford, a well known Country Singer in Maryland, offered Carlos his first paid music gig. In preparation for Dean’s show, Carlos sang at a local open mic and the owner, Dave Smith, hired Carlos for a series of events at Woodhall Wine Cellars. Impressive performances at local open mics have landed Carlos many gigs around Baltimore. Carlos is usually accompanied by the talented Chad Grey on electric guitar. Carlos’ acoustic rhythm with Chad’s impressive guitar solos and Carlos’ voice make for great live music!!!
This year, Carlos recorded his first EP “The Bridge” featuring four original songs, 2 in English and 2 in Spanish. The Bridge was produced by Scott Smith at The Wood and Stone Room. Carlos’ first EP is now available on on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Google Play, and more!
