Episode 12: The Bastard of Fell’s Point
In this episode, Jeff Bejma returns to introduce George Konig, one of the toughest, meanest gang bosses in Fell’s Point history.
Frank's Thoughts
In the full interview for the second episode of the 2016 season, “the Gangs of Baltimore,” Jeff gave a nice overview of the gangs of Baltimore, but he expanded upon one particular gang member, George Konig. When editing the interview, we came to the decision that the story about Koenig was too interesting to truncate or even leave out entirely. After much deliberation, we decided to save the story to be featured as one of the last episodes of this year.
Konig’s life is like something out of a movie. It’s almost unbelievable what he survived. Karma definitely wasn’t doing their job when Koenig was involved. He was one of the worst of the worst, and yet (spoiler alert) he died of old age.
His story is just one of those mostly forgotten tales that have a larger impact then they are given credit for. I don’t want to give away too much without you watching the episode, but let’s just say that his actions were more than a footnote on American history. Just goes to show you that when history is taken out of the personal perspective and given an overview, you can easily lose some of the key players.
