Episode 6: Drawing Inspiration

Frank ventures deep into Baltimore Comic Con and finds out that even a show like Archer holds history.

Frank's Thoughts

My wife and I went to the Baltimore Comic Con all three days. We filmed for History at Risk on Saturday and Sunday, but Friday...Friday was the day we just went and enjoyed.

And enjoyed we did. We saw lots of great costumes, some amazing booths and some great artistis and writers. (I even got to shake Chewbacca’s hand...like the real Chewbacca, Peter Mayhew himself.)

One of the greatest parts of the con was how open everyone was to talking. Not just the attendees but the guests as well. Artists and writers would strike up conversations and just to seem to genuinely enjoy chatting with everyone.

Sam Ellis was no different. My wife and I talked with him, his brother and his sister for quite a while on Friday. We originally stopped just because we are huge fans of Archer and Adventure Time (he worked on a comic on theirs), but after talking with him, we knew we wanted to talk with him on camera, and he was gracious enough to accept.

And this is one of the most amazing things I have found in the comic book community. Mostly everyone I meet that is a comic fan is instantly accepting. We can find that connection and it doesn’t matter if we grew up in different parts of the country, with different experiences, we can spend hours talking about who’s our favorite writers or artists.

I guess this time on Frank’s Thoughts, I didn’t talk a lick about history, but I’ll save that for the episode.
